You've heard the analogy comparing our diverse campuses to "salad bowls," places where people from all walks of life are thrown together and challenged to maintain their own unique identities while building a positive, respectful sense of community.
Well, if you have been looking for a meaningful way to bring together the leaders of the various organizations on your campus, then SALAD might just be the ticket!
This program invites leaders from varying student organizations to search for common ground, initiate relationships and work together for the benefit of your campus community. Students begin the program by putting their stereotypes right out on the table. What tensions exist between groups and why? Do some organizations feel less valued than others? Is there a disparity of resources among groups on campus?
Once the baggage is out in the open, the focus turns to "the big picture" as the student leaders talk about their common goals and the benefits of working together to improve the campus environment.
There are two different versions of the SALAD program
The cost is determined by the number of students your campus wants to attend and how many facilitators will be required to lead the group.
Both versions can be held on an evening or weekend, and as part of a larger retreat or as a stand-alone program. SALAD is perfect for new leaders or those hoping to take things to the next level. It can help build unity among students and make obvious issues that need to be tackled. Best of all, the day does not end with a group hug, but with the development of an action plan for tackling the issues raised throughout the day.
"I would recommend this program to other campuses it has a great purpose to help bring awareness and create unity. That is always needed, and SALAD fulfilled that for us."
